“Fast” Food Drive 2020

NOV. 1 – DAY 1
THE CALL: AN INVITATION

SCRIPTURE
Mark 4:26-29

26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”

DEVOTIONAL

Some may wonder if God’s work in North Korea is dead or worth it. Mark 4:26-29 aptly illustrates how the seed of God’s love is in North Korea. Many have sown since the early days, and the seed is growing though we do not know how.

It can be said that right now foreign Christian engagement work inside North Korea is experiencing winter: cold, barren, and frozen with 75 years of unyieldingness, sanctions, travel bans, and now a pandemic. While that may be so, God is faithful to His Word and work in every season! Let us also be faithful to the call and desire God has placed in our hearts to engage the people of North Korea for His glory.

CITY SPOTLIGHT:
RASON

Rason City is in North Hamgyong Province, located in the far northeast, near the borders with China and Russia. It is home to the DPRK’s first special economic zone (SEZ). Home to ~196,000 people, Rason is a pioneering city. It boasts 3 ice-free ports, a transnational railway, and diverse food thanks to the various foreigners who have settled here. Fun fact: The city is currently experimenting with private home ownership for citizens.

PRAYER POINTS

  • Praying the Psalms: Psalm 67, Psalm 100:3-5
  • Adore God for His gracious blessings to North Korea. Praise the Lord for those who answered the call of His heart these past 75 years, through whom His face shined upon the people of the DPRK.
  • Confess our tendency to trust governments and our own understanding over God’s sovereignty and ways. May we know that the Lord is God in all things and trust Him regardless of how things appear.
  • Thank God for the harvest in North Korea. Thank Him for His steadfast love and faithfulness to all generations.
  • Pray for the city and people of Rason: that as the city prospers, it will not be a prey to port city vices and abuses. Pray for sustainable and just port and city relationships/regulations that enhance the lives and livelihoods of citizens and residents.

WORSHIP
