“Não nos cansemos de fazer o bem, pois, se não desanimarmos, chegará o tempo certo em que faremos a colheita.”
— Gálatas 6:9
“Great Harvest 2027” is a call to the global Church to collaboratively train the next generation to be communities of healing and reconciliation in the 27 major cities of North Korea by 2027.
The call to the local churches is for each to train 12 workers, or fellows, that will form these communities by 2027.
Mark 4:26-29 says that the kingdom of God is like the seed that was sown on the ground. Night and day the seed sprouts and grows though we do not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain. As soon as the grain is ripe, the harvest has come; this is how it is in North Korea. Many have sown since the early days and the seed is growing though we do not know how. The grain is ripe for the harvest; the harvest will surely come.
Mrs. Underwood, the wife of H. G. Underwood (founder of Yonsei University), records in 1909 of an ambitious evangelistic initiative to reach one million souls by the end of the year. The western missionaries and the Korean Christians collaborated to give out tracts and to evangelize all of Korea by the end of the year; however, they fell utterly short of their goal.
Yet what Mrs. Underwood wrote after the campaign is inspiring. Although the campaign was an utter failure, she wrote that another generation would reap the prayers and labors of their initiative. She had faith that what they had sown and labored would be reaped by another generation. By faith, we believe that this generation of young people will reap the great harvest in North Korea.
2027 commemorates 120th year since the Pyongyang Revival of 1907 during which time Pyongyang was known as the “Jerusalem of the East.” The early Christian workers, and many that followed, prayed that God would create a united church in Korea who would reach out her arms to China, Japan, Russia, and then reach out to the world with God’s love. To that end, let’s not grow weary but continue to pray and to labor for the good of the people of Korea, both the North and the South.

Who is facilitating the Great Harvest 2027 CALL?
Currently, Reah International — a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has over 15 years of experience of raising awareness, mobilizing the body of Christ, and connecting Christians to opportunities to engage with the people of North Korea — is spearheading this effort at this time. However, we are building a steering committee to ultimately lead this call as a team, in the spirit of unity and collaboration.
One of Reah’s core values, which we also bring to this Call, is to do this work in the spirit of unity, as Jesus prayed in John 17:22-23 — that through Christ’s unity with the Father, and our unity in Him, we will be brought to “complete unity … then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” We believe unity is a key component for our witness to be effective in a secular, pluralistic world, and especially in the context of a peninsula and people that is currently divided.
Reah International has gained a reputation over the years for its ability to bring Christians together to engage with the people of North Korea. Reah’s signature Empower conferences brings people from around the world to build networks between field, churches, and individuals, raise awareness, and mobilize people and resources for strategic projects. Reah also hosts forums to build deeper connections and better coordination for work in specific arenas (e.g. business, education, humanitarian partnerships, etc.) Reah has also coordinated fieldworker retreats to foster unity and cooperation among fieldworkers, create a space for fieldworkers to be refreshed and renewed.
Through the Great Harvest 2027 Call, Reah hopes continue in our God-given role of being a behind-the-scenes bridge builder, and empowering the body of Christ to flourish in each part’s unique role, and come together in unity, displaying the richness of that diversity.
Reah International desires to see God glorified in North Korea and see His Body be a blessing to the nation. We believe placing workers inside North Korea through business, education, and humanitarian, and other platforms are essential to achieving this end. Reah and its partners also subscribe to a front door approach to engagement. We work with full acknowledgment of the government of North Korea, and we work within the bounds of China, South Korea, and the U.S. laws. Through the Great Harvest 2027 Call, we envision Christians, using their diverse backgrounds and vocations, establish communities in the 27 major cities of North Korea to live and work with North Koreans, and simply live out their faith and the Gospel in love and service of Christ.
